Both parents are responsible for supporting the children — whether that means providing a residence or paying child support. Child support is determined by a number of factors.
- What determines child support? The factors include the amount of time each parent spends with the child (visitation, shared custody), the income of each parent, and additional expenses such as daycare costs, education expenses, medical needs, health insurance. The judge has limited discretion over child support. It is determined by the New Mexico child support formula.
